The Vision of Bishop G. Parkes
In early 2017, Bishop Gregory Parkes initiated a series of listening sessions to gather insights into the needs of the people of the Diocese of St. Petersburg, Florida. As he collected the community's thoughts, hopes, and dreams, one clear goal emerged: the need for an additional Catholic school within the diocese.
Following a period of prayer and discernment, Bishop Parkes entrusted the Office of Catholic Schools and Centers to identify a suitable location for the new school. After careful consideration, the school will be built on the grounds of St. Anne Parish in Ruskin, Florida.
The Ruskin site was selected for several compelling reasons. Southern Hillsborough County currently has no Catholic school, and the nearest one is approximately 40 minutes away. Additionally, the area is experiencing significant population growth, with thousands of new homes being built nearby. The new school will serve a diverse community and will welcome scholarship students in its PreK through 8th grade program.
Bishop Parkes named the school Mater Dei in honor of the Blessed Mother.
